This book was designed to help set the direction of Korean language education while also helping the government establish Korean language education policies by discussing laws, systems, and policies related to Korean language education and the reality of the Korean language education field by examining the actual state of the Korean language curriculum and policies. Korean language education, which had been developed mainly by the private sector for a long time, began to appear in earnest in the 1990s, and since the 2000s, various departments within the government have played large and small roles in Korean language education. These changes in the field raise many issues for Korean language education researchers, and this is the curriculum and policy covered in this book. Part 1 of this book focuses on curriculum discussions related to the Korean language education scene that has changed drastically, and part 2 focuses on discussions on Korean language education policies. Since education in Korea only targeted national education for citizens for a long time, Korean language education for foreigners did not fall into the category of education policies. However, as time passed, the target of education where the country took the lead was not limited to citizens, but immigrants from Korea and Korean language learners from all over the world were also included in various types of education. This soon prompted various departments within the government to participate in the Korean language education policy, and of course, policy discussions also became active in the Korean language education and academia. This book focuses on actual discussions rather than theoretical discussions on curriculum and policies. Since Korean language pedagogy is a field-centered applied discipline, I think discussions about reality are as significant as discussions on theory. The content covered in this book will be a good resource for Korean language curriculum and policy discussions.
