[Material] Tono cypress, made in Japan
[What is Tono Hinoki?] Cypress grown in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture has excellent strength, durability, and water resistance, and is known as a major brand of Japanese cypress. The Tono region has poor soil, little annual rainfall, and harsh winters, making it an extremely harsh environment for plants to grow. For this reason, Tono Hinoki has tight, dense growth rings. Dense growth rings mean that the grain is very fine. The grain is fine and the wood is compact, making it an excellent material with excellent durability, water resistance, and strength.
[Point] Lightly wet the cutting board with water before use. A film of water forms on the surface, making it difficult for food odors and colors to penetrate, and also preventing dark stains.
[Care] After use, wash with water along the grain of the wood with a scrubbing brush to remove dirt thoroughly. If you are concerned about food smells or dirt, you can use a neutral detergent, but please wash carefully with water. Do not use bleach as it will make the surface fluffy. After cleaning, wipe off the moisture with a cloth and dry thoroughly in a shaded area with good ventilation.
[Caution] Rapid drying using a dish dryer or direct sunlight may cause cracking or deformation. Be sure to use the cutting board on a stable, flat surface and be careful not to slip. If your cutting board is warped, cover it with a damp cloth, weigh it down, and let it sit overnight to reduce the warping. Wood oil may ooze out on the surface of the product or inside the shrink pack, but this is a resin component unique to coniferous trees called tar. Once you start using it, the tar will subside. There are no problems with product quality or food hygiene, so please use with confidence.
